Parallels announced that SoftLayer is presenting Parallels Virtuozzo Containers as part of its dedicated server offerings. SoftLayer provides servers for many small and medium-sized hosters, providing a cost-efficient means to offer services that enable them to move up the value chain. SoftLayer's new offering underpins this kind of "sticky" service, providing an end-to-end solution for infrastructure, hardware and applications to customers and service providers worldwide.
Parallels Virtuozzo Containers is an operating system (OS) virtualization solution. On a single physical server and single OS installation, it enables users to run workloads in multiple, simultaneously running execution environments called "containers."
By incorporating Parallels Virtuozzo Containers into its dedicated server offering, SoftLayer enables hosting providers to take advantage of the benefits of virtualization, reducing the total cost of ownership resulting from server consolidation and the virtualization of the entire data center, which ultimately leads to an increase in profitability for resellers.
