Linux Gets its Own Credit Card

Visa Platinum credit card emblazoned with a cute-as-the-dickens picture of Tux, Linux' penguin mascot

The Linux Foundation (LF) now has an affinity Visa Platinum credit card emblazoned with a cute-as-the-dickens picture of Tux, Linux' penguin mascot, for people who want to contribute to advancing the operating system through Foundation initiatives.

The non-profit operation has teamed with CardPartner Inc to offer the card through UMB Bank. LF will get $50 for every activated card as well as a percentage of every purchase made with it.

It says all of the money will go directly towards community technical events and travel grants for open source community members and bolster the funds it uses for such things from dues, events and Linux.com advertising.

Initially, it's only available to US residents but will expand in the coming months.

There's no annual fee and 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first six months.

Card members can earn bonus points redeemable towards free merchandise and airline tickets.
