MySQL at Cloud Expo

The MySQL developer community has announced "a Milestone release", 5.5.0 of the popular open source, relational database software.

The release it says are of beta quality but leaves scope for more frequent subsets releases of tested functionality akin to JBoss and OpenSuse who follow a similar release model.

Users are encouraged to test the  MySQL Server 5.5.0-m2, code-named "Betony" but are also cautioned that MySQL Server 5.5-M2 isn't production ready yet .

New features include semi-synchronous replication, a feature based on Google patches to InnoDB that ensures atleast one backup, enhanced partitioning syntax, and also support for SIGNAL and RESIGNAL, the ANSI/ISO SQL standard method of programmatically returning errors inside SQL procedures.

The InnoDB Plugin is included in 5.5 as the built-in version. Some old syntax has also been retouched and bugs fixed.
