BEA Further Expands SOA Commitment, Hires Two Software Veterans

John P. Giubileo and Annie Shum, Ph.D., Join BEA as Senior Vice President, Operations and Vice President, SOA Strategy

"Their deep understanding of computer architecture and design principles as well as their years of industry experience make Annie and John 'liquid thinkers' who can cement BEA as a leading provider of Service Infrastructure enterprise software," said Wai Wong, BEA's EVP, products, as BEA yesterday named John P. Giubileo as senior vice president, products operations, and Annie Shum, Ph.D., as vice president, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) strategy.

"Both of these executives provide depth and expertise and can help realize our commitment to deliver industry-leading innovation into the future," Wong continued.

Giubileo joins from Computer Associates, where he spent two years as the vice president of eTrust R&D, one of the company's fastest growing business units. In this position, Giubileo was responsible for the strategy and research and development of eTrust's Threat Management and Security Information product initiatives. Giubileo has more than 16 years of experience developing products and managing the day-to-day operations of large multinational IT companies in both the commercial and government sectors. He has held senior management positions at Sprint Corporation, Ernst & Young, LLP and Computer Associates. Giubileo will report to Wong.

Shum, a 2004 A.A. Michelson Award Winner, holds a Ph.D. in queuing analytical models of computer system performance from Harvard University and has deep experience in the field of systems management and performance assurance, specifically in the areas of analytics, capacity planning and prediction. In addition to being a renowned author and speaker, Shum served as vice president of Science and Technology at BSG until 1998, when the company was acquired by BMC. At BMC, Shum served as corporate architect in the role of chief scientist, focusing on the advancement of analytics and the exploration, research, and analysis of emerging technologies. Shum will report to Rob Levy, executive vice president, new products strategy.

"Annie exhibits all the qualities of a liquid thinker," said Levy. "She is a lethal combination of world renowned analytics skills and boundless creativity, which can enable her to push the limits of SOA and beyond. The BEA talent pool just got richer with the addition of such a great ambassador for the company."
