Linux Netwosix 2.0-rc1 has been released, just a few days after the third Netwosix release, version 1.3. This is the first release of the 2.x branch, and includes a new improved setup tool based on Crux-Linux, according to the developer, 19-year-old Vincenzo Ciaglia (left) of the University of Salerno, Italy. Among the many program updates and distribution enhancements, developers will find a stable, complete and cleaned GNU/Linux box for network-security related jobs, Ciaglia says. Linux Netwosix 2.0-rc1 uses the latest 2.6.14.5 stable kernel to deliver advanced and reliable performances.Ciaglia says "this announcement is the perfect way to annunce the first Virtual Community of Linux Netwosix too, available at his website at www.netwosix.org
Significant changes in 2.0-rc1 release over the earlier 1.2 (not 1.3) are:

- All packages upgraded to latest and fixed versions.
- Very very light iso image fast to download and install (~248MB).
- It runs Linux Kernel 2.6.14.5
- System binaries linked with the GNU C Library, version 2.3.5.
- Iptables 1.3.1
- GCC 3.4.3 as the default C compiler.
- It runs "nepote" as default Porting Tool (updated with the new packages).
- Perl 5.8.6 as perl compiler.
