Novell's openSUSE Project Named "Best of Show" by LinuxWorld Magazine-Sponsored Awards

Most Prestigious of All the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo Product Excellence Awards

"More than anything else, these awards are public affirmation that Novell is leveraging open source innovation to deliver high-quality products," said Novell's EVP and CTO Jeff Jaffe (pictured), as the Novell-sponsored openSUSE project was named "Best of Show" this week at an Awards ceremony at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo emceed by SYS-CON Media Group Publisher & Editorial Director Jeremy Geelan in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center yesterday.

The openSUSE project is a Novell-sponsored community initiative that promotes the use of Linux everywhere.

The award was accepted from Geelan by Germany-based Michael Loffler, who is in charge of business development and marketing for the project and had flown in from Nuremberg for the occasion.

"Novell is listening to customers and the open source community to develop products with global appeal," Jaffe commented. "This is the objective we're working toward with SUSE Linux, Open Enterprise Server and our other software products."

SUSE Linux, Novell's community Linux distribution, is created via the openSUSE project, and Novell this week announced the openSUSE build service to simplify the creation of Linux packages for SUSE Linux or any other Linux distribution.

The "Best of Show" award wasn't the only award won by Novell yesterday at the LinuxWorld Magazine-sponsored Awards. The Novell-sponsored Mono project, headed up my Miguel de Icaza, was named "Best Application Development Platform."

The charismatic de Icaza will be joining other industry luminaries on June 5th in New York City, when at the Enterprise Open Source Conference he will be a participant in the "Enterprise Open Source Power Panel" with which Day One of the conference climaxes.
