Xandros Desktop to Include CrossOver

Xandros Corporation, the Canadian outfit that picked up Corel's Debian-based desktop Linux distribution last year, plans to include CodeWeavers' CrossOver software in its upcoming Xandros Desk-top product.

The CrossOver technology should let Xandros users run the more popular Windows applications including Microsoft Office, Visio, Internet Explorer and the Windows Media Player Plugin as well as Lotus Notes and Quicken in a Linux environment without a Windows OS.

CrossOver for Xandros combines functionality from both CrossOver Office and CrossOver Plugin.

Xandros Desktop 1.0, built out of Linux kernel 2.4.19, Xfree86 4.2, Debian 3.0, the Debian-based Corel Linux 3.0 and enhanced KDE, is scheduled to ship this month. It?s targeted at both individuals and enterprise users.

Xandros technology underlies the Lindows.com OS, which also uses CodeWeavers Wine-based technology.
