Leading Analyst Firm Positions New Relic in "Leaders" Quadrant for Application Performance Monitoring

New Relic Recognized for Vision and Ability to Execute

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/20/12 -- New Relic, the SaaS application performance management (APM) company, today announced that Gartner Inc. has placed New Relic in the "leaders" quadrant of the August 16, 2012 "Magic Quadrant for Application Performance Monitoring (APM)" report authored by Jonah Kowall and Will Cappelli. The report evaluated 14 vendors on completeness of vision and ability to execute. A complimentary copy of the report can be viewed here: http://newrelic.com/apm-magic-quadrant.

Vendors that appear in the Leaders Quadrant are evaluated on competitive offerings related to all five dimensions of APM and best-of-breed functionality in two or more of the dimensions, credibility in the monitoring of application domains assembled from heterogeneous sources, effective integration across three or more of the application management dimensions, the ability to deliver and support APM on a global basis, a consistent track record of innovation, and a vision that places APM at the heart of operations and application management.

Since its start in 2008, New Relic has grown rapidly and now serves over 25,000 customers. New Relic offers a SaaS-only delivery model, which enables a sales and deployment approach that emphasizes rapid time to value and ease of use. New Relic continues to be adopted across a wide range of organizations, from large enterprises, to SMBs, to small startups -- all who share a common goal of managing and optimizing business-critical web applications in the most rapid and efficient way possible. New Relic has been growing at a rate of 200% year over year, and expects to continue its rapid expansion and innovation as the company's APM platform is increasingly deployed as a key component of global organizations' application management strategy.

With visibility into real customer transactions across the front end, application tier, and server infrastructure, New Relic provides comprehensive insight into application availability and performance. Its founder, CEO Lewis Cirne, is the inventor of modern application performance management technology based on real user transaction monitoring and production-ready application code instrumentation. New Relic is the only vendor to provide 24x7 monitoring support for Java, .NET, PHP, Python and Ruby web applications, in one tool with one interface, and one technology platform.

"As more and more companies turn to SaaS-based offerings like New Relic for managing every aspect of their business, we are proud to be recognized as a leader in the application performance monitoring Magic Quadrant," said Lew Cirne, New Relic founder and CEO. "Our ability to rapidly execute and our vision for extending application management to offer even greater visibility across the application environment and related technologies, we believe, will allow organizations to better manage and achieve business success more rapidly and easily than ever before."

The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...

Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
