Bomgar Named a University Business Magazine 2012 Readers’ Choice Top Product

Bomgar, a leading provider of secure remote support solutions, today announced it has been selected as a University Business 2012 Readers’ Choice Top Product. The winners were selected by the editors of University Business from nominations submitted by the readership of the magazine, and were based on both the quantity of nominations and the quality of reader descriptions.

Most of today’s colleges and universities include satellite or remote campuses, as well as offer online classes, resulting in students, staff and systems being spread out around the world. Additionally, many universities are made up of several different colleges or schools, each with their own tech support organization. Rather than each school or campus operating as its own island, the Bomgar solution brings support under one virtual roof, allowing IT departments to capitalize on the efficiencies of using common technologies and processes.

“It is such an honor to be recognized as a company with a product that not only makes the jobs of IT workers and managers easier, but contributes to the overall success of higher education institutions,” said Scott Braynard, VP of public sector, Bomgar. “Bomgar’s unique, appliance-based remote support solution allows IT service desks to remotely access and fix nearly any computing device—from laptops to servers to tablets—whether they’re on campus or on the other side of the world, eliminating costly on-site visits. The Bomgar solution is ideal for higher education organizations for two main reasons: the need to securely provide IT support to a variety of remote devices and systems, and the desire to consolidate technology and support services.”

The first annual University Business Readers’ Choice Top Products award recognizes leaders in the higher education industry and provides university leaders and administrators with the unique opportunity to learn what products their colleagues around the country are using, and how these products contribute to the success of their schools.

“We are pleased to announce the first-ever University Business Top Products list and plan to make it a yearly feature,” says University Business Editor-in-Chief Tim Goral. “The nominations came from a variety of university administrators who have shared their experiences with these products and how they have improved the way their school operates. We hope their insight becomes a valuable resource to our readers and helps them solve their biggest challenges on campus.”

The complete list of products has been announced online and in the December issue of University Business magazine.

Cloud computing delivers on-demand resources that provide businesses with flexibility and cost-savings. The challenge in moving workloads to the cloud has been the cost and complexity of ensuring the initial and ongoing security and regulatory (PCI, HIPAA, FFIEC) compliance across private and public clouds. Manual security compliance is slow, prone to human error, and represents over 50% of the cost of managing cloud applications. Determining how to automate cloud security compliance is critical...
Enterprises have taken advantage of IoT to achieve important revenue and cost advantages. What is less apparent is how incumbent enterprises operating at scale have, following success with IoT, built analytic, operations management and software development capabilities - ranging from autonomous vehicles to manageable robotics installations. They have embraced these capabilities as if they were Silicon Valley startups.
"MobiDev is a Ukraine-based software development company. We do mobile development, and we're specialists in that. The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics, wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more. Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in all these areas. In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists discussed what things are the most important, which will have the most profound e...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
