CLOSTER, N.J., March 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ericom Software, a global leader in application access and desktop virtualization solutions, today announced that Watson Institute replaced Citrix's remote access software with Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect. A century-old educational organization serving children and youth with special needs in grades K through 12, Watson is leveraging PowerTerm WebConnect as its IT platform for providing remote, managed access to Windows desktops and applications, and to facilitate its BYOD initiatives.
The majority of Watson's staff often requires secure access on any device to hosted Windows desktops after hours and/or off-site. Watson used Citrix's remote access software, but eventually found the solution too costly and complex to manage. Ultimately they chose to upgrade their access solution to Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect.
Ryan Young, Watson's Information Services Manager, explained, "We sought a simple, easy-to-deploy solution that would allow our training staff and consultants to easily connect to their published Windows 7 desktops, from Androids, iPhones and iPads." Young added, "Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect turned out to be a great fit, based on its cost-effectiveness and solution-reliability, and also for the Ericom support staff's quick responsiveness to technical issues." He continued, "PowerTerm WebConnect has allowed us to reach our goal of providing remote access that replicates the desktop experience as closely as possible for our staff."
With built-in acceleration and high performance native mobile and HTML5-based RDP remote desktop clients, PowerTerm WebConnect enables Watson Institute staff to access their full Windows 7 desktops running Watson's system and software, and other hosted Windows and Web resources from virtually any device, location and time.
Brian Berns, Ericom Software's President and COO commented: "We are very pleased that Watson chose PowerTerm WebConnect for their remote access management needs. PowerTerm WebConnect's high performance RDP enhancements, stability and cross-platform capabilities, are enabling Watson Institute to keep pace with the BYOD trend and address other challenges." Berns added, "Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect's accelerated RDP capabilities and comprehensive end-user device support empowers Watson staff with simple and flexible access to Windows-based applications and virtual desktops, from iPads, Androids, laptops, Chromebooks and from any device using an HTML5-compatible Web browser."
