Pentaho Announces SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 Certification

Open Source BI Suite Certified For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server And Desktop Editions

Pentaho announced that it has completed certification of its Pentaho Open BI Suite on both the server and desktop editions of SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 from Novell. Together, Pentaho and SUSE Linux Enterprise provide a compelling solution leveraging open source software to provide superior functionality and value compared to proprietary alternatives.

Pentaho provides a wide range of open source BI capabilities for organizations that need to get more value out of the information locked away in their applications and databases. Whether it's embedded reporting within a Java application, powerful OLAP-style analysis to uncover trends and root causes, or a comprehensive business intelligence deployment, Pentaho provides a modular solution that can easily be embedded within an application or deployed as a complete dedicated BI application stack.

SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 is designed to provide superior scalability and reliability, lower the total cost of ownership, and simplify systems management. It includes built-in application security, virtualization and integrated systems management across a full range of hardware. These features are particularly well-suited to support today's larger and more mission-critical business intelligence deployments, which are playing an increasing role as part of operational applications and processes that serve large communities of front-line users.

The certification of Pentaho on SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 also leverages Pentaho's support for Linux as a BI desktop. It allows administrators and application developers to design reports, dashboards, applications and data integration processes directly on Novell's popular desktop Linux edition, while providing browser-based access to end user applications for reporting, analysis and dashboards from the Linux desktop as well. This Linux desktop support is another significant advantage of Pentaho over proprietary business offerings.

"We're pleased that Pentaho is supporting SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 on both the desktop and server levels," said Chris Cooper, director of partner engineering at Novell. "Certifying a leading open source BI suite on the SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 platform gives organizations the opportunity to deploy enterprise-class BI applications at a much lower cost of ownership than traditional, proprietary offerings."

"As a leading Linux distribution, SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 provides a great platform to support enterprise-class BI applications," said James Dixon, CTO and Chief Geek at Pentaho. "We have a lot of SUSE Linux Enterprise users in our community, and this certification ensures that they can use our BI suite to its fullest advantage."
