New Apigee Wizard Converts APIs From SOAP to REST in Minutes

Apigee Helps Businesses Quickly Adapt IT Systems for Modern Web and Mobile Applications While Leveraging Their Investment in SOAP Web Services

PALO ALTO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/20/13 -- Apigee, the API company, today announced new functionality in its leading API platform that automatically converts SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) Web services to REST (Representational State Transfer) APIs in a matter of minutes. The new Apigee SOAP-to-REST Wizard makes it easier, faster and significantly less costly for organizations to adapt their IT architectures for modern Web and mobile apps while leveraging their investments in legacy SOAP Web Services. This functionality is one of a number of recent enhancements to the Apigee API platform to better support organizations as they embrace the new digital world driven by apps, data and APIs.

"In order to compete effectively in today's app economy, businesses must be able to expose Web services and data through modern REST APIs. However, many companies either aren't ready to abandon the investment they have already made in SOAP or need to maintain some of their backend SOAP services for legacy systems and partners," said Brian Pagano, chief architect at Apigee. "The Apigee SOAP-to-REST Wizard takes a previously complex, costly and time-consuming process and simplifies it down to a few points and clicks. It can really benefit businesses that need to quickly expose services and engage with customers and partners through flexible, modern apps."

Converting existing services from SOAP to REST can be a time-consuming, costly and often error-prone task, but with the new Apigee Wizard, it's easy for IT to present backend SOAP services to developers and partners as REST services. The Apigee Wizard works by generating a REST API based on Web Services Definition Language (WSDL) and then performs protocol conversion, message transformation, SOAP API modeling, and both basic and advanced policy enforcement using an intelligent algorithm. With Apigee, this process that can take weeks to complete can be completed in just a few minutes.

Apigee helps businesses of all sizes expand and engage with customers with digital initiatives for an app-centric, mobile world. In addition to the SOAP-to-REST Wizard, Apigee has recently added several other product features and enhancements to deliver the fastest and most cost-effective way to build, deliver and manage apps, data and APIs. Other recent enhancements to Apigee include:

  • multi-region distributed token management and caching
  • API-specific analytics
  • a streamlined user interface for API creation and management for various backend services
  • role-based access for multi-team API development

IoT & Smart Cities Stories
The Jevons Paradox suggests that when technological advances increase efficiency of a resource, it results in an overall increase in consumption. Writing on the increased use of coal as a result of technological improvements, 19th-century economist William Stanley Jevons found that these improvements led to the development of new ways to utilize coal. In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Mark Thiele, Chief Strategy Officer for Apcera, compared the Jevons Paradox to modern-day enterprise IT, examin...
While the focus and objectives of IoT initiatives are many and diverse, they all share a few common attributes, and one of those is the network. Commonly, that network includes the Internet, over which there isn't any real control for performance and availability. Or is there? The current state of the art for Big Data analytics, as applied to network telemetry, offers new opportunities for improving and assuring operational integrity. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jim Frey, Vice President of S...
