Oracle Sets World Record For Two-Tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark Running Linux On Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST 580 Server

Head-to-Head Comparison Finds Oracle On Top With 3,600 More SAP SD Users Than Microsoft SQL Server 2005 On Identical Hardware

Oracle announced a world record two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) Standard Application Benchmark result for Linux on an Intel-based Fujitsu server. Running Linux on a Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST 580 server with 32 Dual-Core Intel Itanium 1.6 GHz processors, Oracle Database 10g achieved 12,500 SAP SD Benchmark users, delivering 40 percent more performance than Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on identical hardware, as measured by the number of benchmark users. This result underscores Oracle's superior scalability for processing mission-critical SAP SD Benchmark transactions, running on the mySAP ERP 2004 application.

The two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark measures the system performance to process dialog steps and order line item postings per hour for SAP solution-based transactions. A transaction consists of a full business process that captures activities from the full order processing cycle from order creation to delivery to invoicing.

"Oracle's on-going efforts to raise the bar on database performance are once again achieved with this latest benchmark result and add to our consistently high marks across SAP SD Standard Application Benchmarks," said Richard Sarwal, vice president of Server Performance, Oracle. "Many of our customers have demanding sales and distribution environments that greatly benefit from the performance and scalability that Oracle Database 10g on Linux delivers."

Oracle holds several performance world record results on other SAP Standard Application Benchmarks running on Fujitsu and Fujitsu Siemens Computers hardware including: the two-tier SAP Business Information Warehouse (BW) Release 3.5 Standard Application Benchmark and the two-tier SAP Assemble-to-Order (ATO) Standard Application Benchmark. The PRIMEQUEST 580 server is the latest Fujitsu mainframe-class design to provide an optimum platform for hosting mission-critical Oracle database deployments, whether it is in a demanding environment running SAP solutions or other large-scale, high-performance Oracle installation.
