OpenDaylight Is the First Open Source Project to Receive Interop Event's Grand Prize Award

OpenDaylight Was Selected by Interop Judges for Its Significant Contributions to Advancing IT

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/03/14 -- The OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open source platform to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), today announced that Interop has awarded the project with the Best of Interop Grand Prize selected from nine category winners across key facets of IT. OpenDaylight is the first-ever open source project to receive the award from Interop, a technology conference and expo series designed to inform and inspire the world's IT community. The Best of Interop Awards program recognizes IT companies that have made significant contributions to advancing business technology.

"We want to congratulate the OpenDaylight Project on the success of Hydrogen, its open source SDN solution, which our judges felt to be the most significant new product this year," said Jennifer Jessup, general manager, Interop. "OpenDaylight winning a Best of Interop award illustrates the growing influence of open source technology in networking."

In addition to being the Grand Prize winner, OpenDaylight also won the Best of Interop SDN Award. Category finalists included Cisco's Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC), OpenDaylight's Hydrogen open source SDN platform, and VMware's NSX Network Virtualization Platform. The Best of Interop awards program celebrates unique solutions advancing business technology. Nearly 130 companies submitted products for consideration in nine essential categories.

"This is a testament to the power of community and open, collaborative development," said Neela Jacques, executive director, OpenDaylight. "It's been amazing to watch the industry come together to advance a technology as complex as software-defined networking. It's a huge honor for the project to be recognized for that effort and is a reflection of the value that the industry places on open source and open standards."

OpenDaylight Hydrogen is an open platform for network programmability to enable SDN and create a solid foundation for NFV for networks at any size and scale. The community is comprised of leading developers from academia, commercial suppliers and end users throughout the industry who talk about their experience in this video.

The Best of Interop Judging Committee, comprised of 16 award-winning IT editors, analysts and IT practitioners, shortlisted 27 submissions as Best of Interop finalists. Finalists briefed the judges and provided product demos where appropriate, and judges then selected the category winners.
