ISO and IEC Approve OASIS AMQP Advanced Message Queuing Protocol

The enterprise-level Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP), developed by the OASIS open standards consortium, has now been approved for release as an ISO and IEC International Standard. AMQP 1.0 was balloted through the Joint Technical Committee on Information Technology (JTC1) of the International Standards Organization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The approved OASIS AMQP submission has been given the designation, ISO/IEC 19464.

AMQP provides a platform-agnostic method for ensuring information is safely transported between applications, among organizations, within mobile infrastructures, and across the Cloud. AMQP is used in areas as varied as financial front office trading, ocean observation, transportation, smart grid, computer-generated animation, and online gaming. Many operating systems include AMQP implementations, and many application frameworks are AMQP-aware. There are Cloud-hosted offerings of AMQP, and it is embedded in virtualization infrastructure.

In October 2012, AMQP was ratified as an OASIS Standard and subsequently submitted by OASIS to the ISO/IEC JTC 1, Information Technology body. As ISO/IEC 19464, the standard will continue to be maintained and advanced by the OASIS AMQP Technical Committee, which includes representatives of Axway, Bank of America, Cisco, Credit Suisse, Cryptsoft, Deutsche Börse, JPMorgan Chase, Kaazing, Microsoft, Red Hat, Software AG, US Department of Homeland Security, VMware, and others. New members are welcome.
