Performance & Availability Management Monitoring from GroundWork Now Available for OpenStack®

GoundWork Cloud Hub is the first to bring performance monitoring to the compute, storage and networking components of OpenStack

ATLANTA, GA (OpenStack Summit) - May 14, 2014 - GroundWork, Inc. (www.gwos.com), the leading Unified Monitoring solution for IT operations management and cloud monitoring, today announced the first performance monitoring solution for the OpenStack cloud operating system. Monitoring for OpenStack is available through GroundWork Cloud Hub enabling availability and performance visibility for Nova compute, Neutron networking and Cinder storage components, as well as the underlying physical hardware and other typical data center assets.

"Existing monitoring modules built into OpenStack are focused on metering and billing, which is an important, but very different set of capabilities than the availability and performance monitoring that GroundWork offers," said David Dennis, vice president of marketing and business development for GroundWork. "OpenStack cloud operators concerned with total cloud capacity, performance tuning and scaling will gain insight into chokepoints at multiple layers of their OpenStack deployments."

According to Michael Cote, research director at 451Resarch, "We see a steady rising interest in OpenStack and have been fielding many inquiries about how to better manage OpenStack installs. It's clear that part of OpenStack becoming 'enterprise grade' is laying on mature monitoring and management, which is what you'd expect from a veteran of that space like GroundWork."

GroundWork Cloud Hub with OpenStack monitoring has the ability to monitor several components within the OpenStack framework enabling users to:

  • Monitor performance and availability of Nova, Neutron, and Cinder OpenStack modules
  • Make sense of metrics across the entire system
  • Combine metrics for mulit-level trouble shooting
  • Visualise specific data important for provisioning and capacity planning including:
    • CPU Steal (Linux), ReadyState (VMWare)
    • Storage from the VM down to the SAN
    • Network throughput across routers, switches and virtual networks

Poor data quality and analytics drive down business value. In fact, Gartner estimated that the average financial impact of poor data quality on organizations is $9.7 million per year. But bad data is much more than a cost center. By eroding trust in information, analytics and the business decisions based on these, it is a serious impediment to digital transformation.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...

IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. Unfortunately, this inevitably makes IoT less approachable for people to get started with and can hamper efforts to integrate this key technology into your own portfolio. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
