Azul Systems Gives DevOps New Control Over Java Runtime Performance

Latest Zing(R) Release Extends Azul's ReadyNow!(TM) Technology to Enable Fine-Grained Control of Java Compilation

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/10/14 -- QCon New York 2014 -- Azul Systems®, Inc. (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java™ runtime solutions, today announced the general availability of its Zing® runtime for Java, release 5.10. The new Zing release extends production support for new server-grade Amazon AWS instances, is certified for use in Big Data applications running Cloudera Enterprise 5, and gives Java developers and DevOps teams a new set of compiler APIs and other features that extend the functionality and scope of Azul's ReadyNow!™ technology.

Key new ReadyNow! features in Zing 5.10 include:

  • Compilation policy controls during live operation, which greatly improve the behavior of high-performance applications that must execute quickly without later encountering stalls and slowdown at critical times.
  • Compiler APIs and Compiler configuration directives, which allow Java developers to specify the desired level of compilation and optimization policies applied at the individual class or method level. This maintains high levels of optimization while avoiding future stall-inducing code de-optimization.
  • Improved "unreached" code handling, which optimally compiles code even when infrequently used, thereby reducing unexpected stalls and pauses during live operation.

In addition to the new ReadyNow! features, Zing's ability to support cloud deployments on Amazon is also extended in release 5.10. Along with existing support for RHEL, SLES, CentOS and Ubuntu, Zing 5.10 adds support for Amazon Linux and is now fully supported on all Amazon instance types that utilize HVM (hardware virtual machine) virtualization, providing operations teams with a range of cost-effective, powerful new deployment options in the cloud.

"Beyond our new cloud and Big Data-centric capabilities, Zing 5.10 is the most developer-empowering Zing release we've ever built," said Scott Sellers, Azul Systems president and CEO. "Our goal with this new Zing release is to give leading-edge Java DevOps teams the tools they need to monitor, control and tune the behavior of latency and throughput-sensitive Java applications."

"Like most developers building applications at scale, Java developers are always looking for better control over their runtime environment," said Stephen O'Grady, principal analyst at RedMonk. "Azul's focus on exposing latent JVM features and capabilities, therefore, is likely to be well-received by those building Java applications for the enterprise."

Zing 5.10 Availability

Zing 5.10 is a 64-bit JVM that complies with the Java SE 7 and SE 6 standards, and runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Ubuntu, Amazon Linux and CentOS. Version 5.10 of the Zing runtime for Java is available immediately.

Existing Azul customers and partners can download Zing 5.10 from Azul's Support portal, while prospective users and new ISV partners can access the Zing binaries via the Zing Trial page, located at http://info.azulsystems.com/ZingTrialSignup.html. Developers working on open source projects can also gain access to free Zing subscriptions by sending an email to [email protected].

It is of utmost importance for the future success of WebRTC to ensure that interoperability is operational between web browsers and any WebRTC-compliant client. To be guaranteed as operational and effective, interoperability must be tested extensively by establishing WebRTC data and media connections between different web browsers running on different devices and operating systems. In his session at WebRTC Summit at @ThingsExpo, Dr. Alex Gouaillard, CEO and Founder of CoSMo Software, presented ...
Most people haven’t heard the word, “gamification,” even though they probably, and perhaps unwittingly, participate in it every day. Gamification is “the process of adding games or game-like elements to something (as a task) so as to encourage participation.” Further, gamification is about bringing game mechanics – rules, constructs, processes, and methods – into the real world in an effort to engage people. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Robert Endo, owner and engagement manager of Intrepid D...
Recently, WebRTC has a lot of eyes from market. The use cases of WebRTC are expanding - video chat, online education, online health care etc. Not only for human-to-human communication, but also IoT use cases such as machine to human use cases can be seen recently. One of the typical use-case is remote camera monitoring. With WebRTC, people can have interoperability and flexibility for deploying monitoring service. However, the benefit of WebRTC for IoT is not only its convenience and interopera...

To Really Work for Enterprises, MultiCloud Adoption Requires Far Better and Inclusive Cloud Monitoring and Cost Management … But How? Overwhelmingly, even as enterprises have adopted cloud computing and are expanding to multi-cloud computing, IT leaders remain concerned about how to monitor, manage and control costs across hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. It’s clear that traditional IT monitoring and management approaches, designed after all for on-premises data centers, are falling short in ...
Organizations planning enterprise data center consolidation and modernization projects are faced with a challenging, costly reality. Requirements to deploy modern, cloud-native applications simultaneously with traditional client/server applications are almost impossible to achieve with hardware-centric enterprise infrastructure. Compute and network infrastructure are fast moving down a software-defined path, but storage has been a laggard. Until now.
