SUNNYVALE, CA and SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- (Marketwired) -- 07/09/14 -- Ayla Networks, a pioneer in Agile platforms for the Internet of Things (IoT), will provide cloud services and other technologies to enable LockState to bring intelligent door locks and other security systems to market to meet the rapidly growing demand for Internet-connected products.
LockState will use Ayla's technology to power a commercial version of their RemoteLock, a Wi-Fi enabled Internet door lock. With RemoteLock, property owners can issue permanent or temporary passcodes to service personnel, family members or guests without worrying about lock boxes, hiding keys or illegal copying. A security camera that is part of the RemoteLock platform can also monitor and capture activity around the door. LockState looked at several IoT partners and contemplated building its own cloud, but chose to collaborate with Ayla because Ayla's solution was the only one that met its requirements for security, cost and time-to-market.
"We easily saved $500,000 and nine months of development time by working with Ayla and we anticipate saving even more by leveraging Ayla's cloud services to manage our products as RemoteLock gets deployed," said Nolan Mondrow, CEO and Founder of LockState. "But more importantly, an Internet-enabled lock has to still work like a lock. It has to be safe, reliable and never stop working. RemoteLock links directly to phones and other devices via an integrated Wi-Fi module: additional gateways are not required. RemoteLock can operate a year on a single battery charge. LockState will release a commercial version of its RemoteLock this fall and primarily market it to commercial customers and applications like short-term rentals, office buildings and storage facilities where dynamic access control and remote monitoring are a must. Additional consumer locks are in development.

Built-in data analytics enable real-time learning and a virtual device management system allows manufacturers to quickly react to this learning and modify their products -- even after they are deployed in the field. Enterprise-class features include multi-tiered role based access control, remote firmware update management and customer service visibility tools.
The company is collaborating with SINA, the world's largest Chinese language portal, and a number of established U.S. manufacturers on Internet-enabled products. Ayla has also announced plans to build an IoT cloud to serve customers in China.
