Octoblu Emerges from IoT Stealth Mode

Industry veterans team up to help companies bring innovative IoT services to market

Octoblu on Tuesday emerged from stealth mode to announce its vision to provide an Internet of Things (IoT) platform for real-time connections and communication management across applications, people and physical devices.

The convergence of global trends, including cloud computing, the proliferation of mobile devices and social and business transactions over the Internet, are creating the IoT - where devices and sensors are connecting and exchanging information. This presents tremendous opportunity for companies to deliver new products and services; According to Gartner estimates, the IoT will include 26 billion units installed by 2020, and by that time, IoT product and service suppliers will generate incremental revenue exceeding $300 billion, mostly in services.[1]

"IoT provides opportunities for bringing innovative new services to market," said Geir Ramleth, CEO of Octoblu. Helping Companies Create Innovative IoT Services
Octoblu will utilize Meshblu (formerly code named SkyNetIM), an open source machine-to-machine (M2M) instant messaging platform created by Chris Mattheiu, cofounder and CTO for Octoblu. Meshblu can be used for the discovery, control and management of any API-based software application, any hardware or appliance, or social media network - connecting devices through a variety of protocols across a common platform. Octoblu is also working on a robust security and rights management architecture, helping enterprises of all sizes to create innovative IoT services.

"While the Internet of Things brings opportunities for companies to more efficiently deliver services to its customers, it presents challenges, such as how to connect devices so they can communicate with each other, how to manage the complexity of connections, how to secure flow of data across devices, and how to analyze the data and communicate results to other devices," said Matthieu. "Octoblu will provide a platform to help users control, design, manage and analyze the overall flow of information."

Industry Veteran Leadership
Octoblu is cofounded by Ramleth and Matthieu, industry veterans known for transforming IT in ways that boost efficiency.  Ramleth, who was inducted to CIO Magazine's Hall of Fame in 2008, was senior vice president and chief information officer of Bechtel Group, Inc., from 2002-2013, where he led the global Information Systems and Technology organization. Prior to Bechtel, he held leadership positions for a variety of companies in the technology and communications industry.

Matthieu is experienced in developing architecture and leading the introduction of emerging technologies and business models into existing and new product portfolios. Most recently the manager of emerging technologies for Bechtel, he was also a key player in the evolution of technology and business strategies for companies including BlueCross BlueShield of AZ, Hoosier & Arizona Lotteries and Accenture.

Bill Rinehart is an investor and board member. Previously, Bill was founder and CEO at both Unicorn Media and Limelight Networks.
