Linux Thrives in the Asia-Pacific - But It's No Thanks To MSFT, Says IBM Exec

IBM executive alleges there's an anti-Linux conspiracy on the rampage

No sooner had IBM announced yesterday that it has been achieving a growth rate of a staggering 600% in the deployment of Linux in its eServer iSeries throughout the Asia-Pacific region, than one of its executives starts claiming publicly that the SCO vs IBM lawsuit is part of a wider anti-Linux conspiracy that includes folks working for a large software company somewhere in the northwest of America, not a million miles from Seattle.

The occasion was a conference in Australia, and the exec in question was Al Zollar, who serves as GM Sales for IBM's eServer iSeries.

A "set of forces" was attempting to derail Linux, Zollar said, according to reports. "They're mostly located in Redmond although they have recruited a few allies," he apparently added. By this he specifically meant, according to those who were there, the likes of SCO Group, which claims that IBM's alleged misappropriation of code lifted directly from a version of Unix System V over which it claims copyright, and its subsequent addition to the Linux kernel, are sufficient grounds for awarding it $1 billion.
