Seven DevOps Videos You Have to Watch
By Necco Ceresani

For being such a new industry there is a lot of video content based around DevOps. I found this out after trying to search for some entertaining or highly rated DevOps/IT videos on youtube. That process failed, so I decided to dig a littler deeper into the community to find some of the most entertaining, hilarious and informative DevOps-esk videos on the web. Many of the videos below are recommended by your peers and they are sure to not disappoint.

James Mickens – Computer are a sadness, I am a cure.

If you haven’t watched this, press play right now! This is by far the most hilarious and entertaining IT video I have ever come across. Technically this talk is on Distributed Systems. That being said, whether you actually care about distributed systems or not, doesn’t matter because this material is gold. James Mickens is indeed infallible.

Exploring the Uncharted Territory of Microservices

On the more informative side of things, this recorded webinar featuring an all-star panel of Gene Kim, Andrew Phillips, Gary Gruver, and Randy Shoup is big winner for anyone trying to figure out this Microservices. Click play to hear what the real experts are saying how this new idea.

Artur Bergman – Artur on SSDs

This fantastic 4 minute talk is not for children’s ears. This masterful presentation given by Artur Bergman is about as real as it gets.  The basic gist of this talk is “If you don’t have SSD in your laptop, you are wasting your life.” And then the video ends.

Hiring a Tech Ops Team

Screen Shot 2015-08-05 at 12.30.00 PM

If you haven’t picked up on the trend of this blog yet, we are doing amusing/entertaining videos and then informative/interesting videos. In this video, Charity Majors, a Production Engeering Manager, discusses the real questions we all want answered when hiring a Tech Ops Team: Do you really need an Ops Team? What makes a good startup ops hire? and How do you interview and sort for these qualities?

Tomas Doran – Sensu and Sensibility

While we normally suggest using the XebiaLabs Toolset for all of your complex and scalable application needs, this talk given by Yelp’s Tomas Doran is a treasure trove of best practices. Tomas walks us through how he deployed Sensu using Puppet and the process is most interesting for anyone in our space.

ChefConf 2014 – DevOps: No Horsesh**

Chef is slowly becoming known for it’s original videos during ChefConf. You can find others here: https://www.youtube.com/user/getchef but this one is definitely my favorite. If you are into that English meet Portlandia type of humor, you will enjoy this one of a kind video.

Are you suffering from Severe CI?

I wanted to end this blog with one of my favorite DevOps videos. Full discloser, this is an XebiaLabs commercial, but I think it’s pretty funny all the way around. We did our best to transform our office space into a Cialis commercial, side effects and all. With plenty of well-placed Easter eggs, this hilarious DevOps commercial hits the nail on the head when it comes to CD and CI.

According to Forrester Research, every business will become either a digital predator or digital prey by 2020. To avoid demise, organizations must rapidly create new sources of value in their end-to-end customer experiences. True digital predators also must break down information and process silos and extend digital transformation initiatives to empower employees with the digital resources needed to win, serve, and retain customers.

Machine learning has taken residence at our cities' cores and now we can finally have "smart cities."
