Offers New Integrations for JIRA Software and Chef

Creating a unified toolchain is increasingly important for today's modern software delivery approaches. Providing context, visibility and compliance around the growing number of tools and processes being used today is core to our mission of connecting the world of software delivery. Today, we are pleased to announce a new version of TeamForge that extends your ability to integrate activity data from the cloud hosted version of JIRA Software and, for DevOps, Chef, into a centralized platform. In addition, we've strengthened our capabilities for enterprise Git by supporting both commit- and pull-based code review and collaboration workflows.

With an aim to better coordinate the complex software delivery lifecycle, TeamForge's end-to-end traceability chain with automatic audit trails now covers JIRA Software issues and Chef recipes - in addition to Git or Subversion® source code, Jenkins® jobs, Nexus® binary repositories, and other artifacts and activities - offering customers unprecedented visibility across the development lifecycle, streamlined compliance and better quality control.

Following are highlights from the news announcement we issued today:

"Our customers aspire to deliver high-quality software at speed. For this purpose, they turn to products like TeamForge for Agile, Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), and DevOps," said Flint Brenton, CEO of CollabNet. "CollabNet offers enterprises an effective way to integrate best-of-breed tools, processes and development methodologies to facilitate Agile and DevOps transformations. This release is significant because it reinforces CollabNet's commitment to giving users a platform to unify tool chains and gain efficiency by having greater visibility and collaboration across the development lifecycle."

Chef integration: The need for automation across the software delivery lifecycle has become crucial for organizations scaling CI, CD and DevOps initiatives. Chef delivers leading deployment automation capabilities, and this new integration allows TeamForge to monitor the execution of Chef recipes and record its results. TeamForge links data from Chef and other lifecycle tools to automatically create a set of associations between related artifacts and activities, providing end-to-end contextual traceability and compliance audit logs.

JIRA Software integration: With this new WebHooks-based integration, TeamForge can support both the on-premises and cloud-based versions of JIRA Software, allowing customers to leverage JIRA Software's planning and tracking capabilities regardless of its deployment type. TeamForge associates JIRA Software issues with related downstream artifacts and activities (such as TeamForge Git or SVN code commits, Jenkins CI builds, Nexus binaries - and now, Chef recipes) and produces a full traceability chain from the creation of an issue to the deployment of the corresponding code.

Git Pull-Request support: To provide customers the freedom to choose the code review and collaboration method that best fits their preference and business need, TeamForge now supports the feature branch workflow with pull requests, in addition to Gerrit's individual commit-centric methodology. TeamForge accelerates pull request-based reviews and streamlines root-cause analysis by automatically associating code commits to the ensuing pull requests.

We look forward to further TeamForge innovation during the rest of the year as our industry moves from enterprise Agile to more connected DevOps approaches which, we believe, are perfectly managed by a centralized and open platform like TeamForge.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
