"Our primary competitor, Microsoft Corporation, has significantly more financial, operational and sales and marketing resources than we do," notes San Diego-based Lindows, Inc. in today's IPO filing - that marks the possible beginning, so financial commentators are hoping anyway, of a revival of the heady days back in 2000 when, for example, VA Linux Systems rose about five times its IPO price in its very first trading day, achieving the biggest one-day gain in IPO history.
"We also will likely face intense competition from other established operating system developers, including Red Hat, Novell, Sun Microsystems and Apple, among others," the Lindows filing continues.
The company filed its registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the initial public offering of its common stock. Lindows Inc. is seeking a Nasdaq listing under the symbol "LINE."
The company plans, according to Reuters, to use the proceeds from the IPO "for developing distribution channels for its Linux-based operating system, application software and services, sales and marketing, hiring personnel, debt repayment and other general corporate purposes."
In its own official statement today, Lindows Inc notes:
All of the shares are to be sold by the Company. WR Hambrecht + Co is acting as the lead manager of the offering, which will be made through WR Hambrecht + Co's OpenIPO® auction process. Roth Capital Partners is acting as co-manager. The offering will be made only by means of a prospectus.
