OSDL Picks Up Ex-Red Hat Guy to Run Asia

Fresh from some minor recruiting/dues-paying victories in China, the Open Source Development Lab has hired Masanobu Hirano, the guy who tried to put Red Hat on the map in Japan as president of Red Hat Japan and general manager of Red Hat North Asia, to open Asia for it.

Hirano has been named director of Asia, a new post. Meanwhile, Red Hat signed up an ex-IBM heavyweight, Stephen McWhirter, to run its Asia-Pacific operations.

Meanwhile, OSDL has named William Weinberg open source architecture specialist, saying the open source expert, one of the team who started MontaVista Software, will be an evangelist for Linux users, lab members, press and analysts, another new job intended to stimulate market development.
