Novell Suse Linux Upgrade Improves Virtualization

Features CPU shielding, priority inheritance, sleeping spinlocks, interrupt threads, and high-resolution timers

Open source-based software developer Novell has released the new version of Suse Linux Enterprise Real Time 10, the open source enterprise operating system, to cater to the financial market.

According to Novell, the new version of Suse includes enterprise open source technologies and features such as CPU shielding, priority inheritance, sleeping spinlocks, interrupt threads, high-resolution timers and OpenFabrics enterprise distribution for commodity high-speed interconnects. Additionally, real-time technology provides users with the capability to segment portions of their processors for high-priority mission-critical workloads and other system processes.

Roger Levy, senior vice president and general manager of open platform solutions said: "Companies that leverage technology such as Suse Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 to improve responsiveness and availability of critical business services will be better able to compete and grow their own top-line revenues."

The company claims that the Suse is the only open source, enterprise-class real-time operating system available in the industry and reduces computing infrastructure costs.

Novell also reported that market data feed handlers, messaging middleware, and real-time Java providers are working with it to optimize their solutions on the Suse.

The operating system is available to new users at an annual subscription of $2,500, while the current users are eligible for upgrade at no additional charge.

Novell has launched multiple products to cater to the enterprise segment. In October, the company expanded its identity management solutions with the launch of roles based provisioning modules for the enterprise users.
