Hardware Update: "World's Lightest Linux Notebook Computer" Features Linspire

"Linspire allows Sub300.com to include an operating system at the price some others sell their systems with no operating system at all," says the Canadian Linux-only online store (which claims to be North America's only Linux-specific distributor and retailer of high-quality, low-priced computer systems).

The Linspire OS in question is preinstalled on what the company has named its "Ultralite Laptop" - weighing in a 2.9 lbs. but still equipped with a 1Ghz VIA processor, 256MB RAM, 40 Gig HD, Ethernet and what the comapny calls a "crisp" 12.1" TFT display.

Plus USB 2.0 and PCMCIA slots to add the functionality of wireless networking and more.

"Conventional laptops are too heavy and too expensive, yet handheld PDAs are too low powered. Sub300.com's Ultralite Laptop provides a lightweight, yet full-powered computer with a full-screen and full-size keyboard that you can take anywhere," says Sub300.com, which has gone with the Linspire system on account of what it describes as "an easy-to-use interface and all the capabilities of its more expensive counterparts at a fraction of the price of Windows."

All of their machines come with full warranty, and no parts are used or refurbished. Based in Toronto, Sub300.com is Canadian company that ships to the USA and worldwide from their New York office.
