COLUMBIA, SC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/29/08 -- Spanish Vines, Inc., a growing importer and provider of authentic Spanish wine and food products in the United States, today announced new distribution agreements by which its 2006 Tempranillo and 2006 Macabeo wines will be carried at retailers throughout the states of North and South Carolina.
Building on this momentum, the Company also announced the expansion of its product line to include a 2007 'La Loca' Moscatel de Espumoso sparkling wine. La Loca will be rolled out in summer 2008 and available anywhere Spanish Vine wines are sold.
Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Columbia, SC, Spanish Vines remains focused on a central business goal -- to become a leading national U.S. ethnic food and beverage brand. The Company prides itself on providing customers with unparalleled quality coupled with unbeatable prices.
"Our new distribution agreements are the first steps in what we hope will be a temperate yet steady expansion throughout the United States," said Josh Hackler, Founder, President and Chairman of Spanish Vines. "We are excited by this opportunity to establish new distribution and retail partnerships and to further our mission of spreading the enjoyment of Spanish wines and culture among U.S. consumers."
Spanish Vines products can now be found at retailers including Whole Foods Market, Greens Discount Beverage, Earth Fare, Harris Teeter, and select Kroger stores throughout NC -- as well as many fine restaurants in North and South Carolina. Demand has grown in part due to critical acclaim for the Company's 2006 Tempranillo red, which received a Silver Medal at the Madrid International Wine Fair 2006 (Salon Internacional del Vino 2006), a "Best Buy" among Spanish wines from Wine Enthusiast magazine and an 87 point rating from the Daily Wine Guide. Spanish Vines' 2006 Macabeo white was a recognized wine in 2006 Bacchus Wine Competition.
While Spanish wines are not as common in the U.S. as those from their European neighbors such as France and Italy, they have nonetheless been increasing in popularity. From 1995 to 2005, overall wine imports to the U.S. grew by 50 million cases -- 160% -- to a record 81 million cases (1). The first tastings in the United States of wines exclusively from Spain's Castilla-La Mancha region, that which Spanish Vines Tempranillo and Macabeo grapes originate, were held only in the past couple of years.
'La Loca' -- for That 'Crazy Girl' and the Guy Who Lives With One
The newest product offering from Spanish Vines, the 2007 'La Loca' Moscatel de Espumoso, is made from 100 percent Moscatel grapes. The sweet sparkling white, which will hit stores in summer 2008, possesses apple and zesty orange aromas with mouth-watering honey flavors. The Moscatel is a superbly aromatic grape with high sugar content. It produces very characteristic wines and is also frequently consumed directly as a dessert grape. Widely grown across the whole of Spain, it is particularly frequent in Valencia and Málaga.
"Perfect for a hot summer day, 'La Loca' was conceived for two reasons -- one, for that 'crazy girl' as its name translates, and two, for the guy who lives with one," said Hackler. "We are anxious for consumers to get a taste of Spanish culture through our newest addition to the Spanish Vines family. We are confident that, as our saying goes -- 'To Understand is to Enjoy!'"
