CodeArmor Now Sniffs Out Pirated Linux Apps

The Latest Version of CodeArmor is Red Hat-Ready

V.i. Labs has moved its CodeArmor Intelligence widgetry onto Linux as well as Windows. That's the stuff that lets ISVs gather intelligence on the pirated use of their software and recover lost revenue, a subject near and dear to Microsoft's heart, but pirated Linux software, heavily open source, is like one of those contorted Kama Sutra positions hard to imagine.

However, V.i. VP Victor DeMarines says, "Linux is a rapidly growing platform for many high-value software applications"...and..."ISVs developing software for Linux are experiencing the same level of piracy activity found in Microsoft-based environments."

Anyway, the latest version of CodeArmor is Red Hat-ready, supporting Red Hat 4 and 5 - as well as Windows - and is available in the online version of the Red Hat Software Catalog.

It also includes features that simplify integration with .NET applications and provides greater flexibility in specifying what data is being collected.

Introduced last August, CodeArmor Intelligence lets ISVs generate actionable piracy leads within days of their software's release and general availability. The company says some ISVs are getting more than 1,000 infringement records a day for sales, compliance or legal teams to deal with.

CodeArmor is called the first turnkey piracy detection and reporting system that integrates with existing applications and popular CRM applications such as salesforcecom.

The company says ISVs currently rely on licensing, activation or homegrown approaches to gather data, which are easily detected, bypassed or disabled by piracy groups. These homegrown systems also lack filters and reporting schemes for the data collected and are unable to organize and report the information in a way that can be used to develop a piracy lead.
