"We are constantly being asked when the Linux desktop will be ready for enterprise use, and my answer is, 'Now!'" said Andreas Typaldos, CEO of Xandros, as Xandros today announced that it is shipping Version 3 of the Xandros Business Desktop Operating System (OS).
The new business desktop, says the company, provides "seamless compatibility" with the latest Windows servers, including domain authentication support, logon scripts, and group policy profiles.
"As a special limited-time offer, Xandros will send a free sample of the new business desktop OS to qualified enterprises seeking a secure, plug-in replacement for their costly Windows desktops so they can see for themselves," Typaldo announced.
"I put Xandros Business Edition on my office, home and laptop computers, not because I'm anti-Microsoft or anti-any-other-operating-system. I am going to put Xandros Business Edition on my computers and recommend it to others because it's better than any OS I've seen to date," said Alton Jones, Technology Development Administrator for Comtech. "It downloads clean, it's fast and it works."
Version 3 of the Xandros Business Desktop is compatible with the latest Windows 2003 Server Service Pack 1, providing a secure, stable alternative to Windows desktops. Xandros Business Desktop provides seamless integration into Windows-centric networks with domain authentication support for Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 servers, logon scripts, and group policy profiles.
The Xandros Business Desktop, says Xandros, "provides a complete Windows desktop alternative at a fraction of the cost, including free Skype calling worldwide and the full-featured Star Office suite compatible with Microsoft Office files. Xandros Anti-Virus, the Xandros Firewall Wizard, encrypted home folders, and secure access to virtual private networks eliminate many of the security issues associated with Windows."
Xandros Business Desktop is available now for purchase in retail stores and from the Xandros web site for a list price of USD $129.95.
