SimDesk Delivers On-Demand Computing Solutions to Government and Community Groups
SimDesk and HP to Offer Integrated Open-Source Solution

SimDesk Technologies has announced that in association with HP the companies will jointly deliver the industry’s first integrated open-source on-demand solution for population- and community-based computing.  With this solution, governments and community organizations can offer cost-effective on-demand messaging, file, print, and groupware services to their constituents and community members to achieve their economic development goals.

This solution supports Linux® and Windows® and utilizes an innovative hybrid architecture featuring HP Integrity NonStop and Linux servers to ensure maximum availability from a stateless architecture, which eliminates the need for resource-intensive client-server connections in favor of a transactional model with massive scalability.  SimDesk and HP will deliver the industry’s highest service levels at a cost significantly lower than other attempts to provide these capabilities.  Today’s announcement builds on HP and SimDesk’s longstanding relationship delivering integrated solutions around the world.

“Our alliance with HP is the latest advancement in our vision to deliver the world’s most secure, fault-tolerant on-demand computing environment,” said Louis Waters, president and CEO of SimDesk.  “SimDesk offers the only viable solution for delivering Internet-based computing environments on a population scale.  We commend HP for embracing the opportunity to deliver our solution around the world.”

“HP’s leadership in Linux and HP NonStop servers allows HP to
work with SimDesk to bring customers a solution which changes the
landscape for on-demand computing by removing the barriers to entry for
population- and community-based organizations," said Martin Fink,
vice president and general manager, Open Source & Linux Organization
and NonStop Enterprise Division, HP.  “This is an opportunity to
deliver computing on a massive scale and provide agile solutions for
computing organizations’ changing needs, part of HP’s Adaptive Enterprise
strategy.”

The strategic Windows/Linux offering provides flexible options for governments and community organizations.  For organizations that do not have an existing IT infrastructure, the HP-SimDesk offering provides a lower-cost Linux-based option that eliminates traditional investment, setup, and maintenance hurdles.  For customers looking to migrate from Windows to Linux over time, SimDesk offers interoperability at the file system level, delivering a self-paced phased process vs. a rip-and-replace method.

“IT-utility-style computing, based on real-time infrastructure (RTI) architectures, enables companies to fulfill IT business processes, application and infrastructure requirements from ‘resource pools’ rather than from dedicated resources.  By 2010, 25 percent of application demand will be delivered through RTI/IT utility, either in-house from service providers, up from less than 5 percent,” according to Gartner, Inc. in its March 10, 2005 report entitled Positions 2005: Real-Time Infrastructure and Utility Redefine Delivery Model by Ben Pring and Donna Scott.

The HP-SimDesk on-demand environment includes the following components:

    On-demand Services:

     Interoperable Applications:
