LinuxWorld San Francisco 2005: Rackable Wins "Best Server" and "Best Utility/Grid Computing Solution" Awards
Double Whammy for Rackable Systems in the 2005 LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards

Digg This!

Rackable Systems, Inc. was awarded the 2005 LinuxWorld Conference & Expo Product Excellence Awards for "Best Server" and "Best Utility/Grid Computing Solution" this week in San Francisco. The two awards, managed by the editors of LinuxWorld Magazine and announced at the show by SYS-CON Media West Coast bureau chief Roger Strukhoff, honor Rackable Systems' new C2002 'World's Most Efficient Server' and the company's new Parallel File System Solution.

"We're honored to be acknowledged by the awards committee for our innovations once again at this year's show," stated Tom Barton, chief executive officer of Rackable Systems. "Our consistent recognition by the committee for Rackable Systems' server and storage solutions validates our commitment to providing the best possible technologies for large-scale data center deployments."

"The LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards are known as an industry standard that recognize today's most important advances in Linux and open source technology," said Melinda Kendall, group vice president, IDG World Expo. "Rackable Systems has been consistently recognized at the past four LinuxWorld conferences for its hard work and commitment to excellence in innovation."

Rackable Systems' new C2002 server, winner of the Best Server award, draws an astoundingly low peak of 145 watts in a configuration featuring two dual-core 1.8 GHz AMD Opteron HE processors (four total cores), 8 GB DDR400 RAM and one terabyte of SATA storage leveraging Hitachi 500 GB hard drives, with a mere 500 BTU/hour of peak thermal output. Mounted back-to-back in Rackable Systems' cabinets, the C2002 provides the greatest possible efficiency in power consumption and heat evacuation.

Rackable Systems' Parallel File System Solution, which won Best Utility/Grid Solution, presents Linux/Unix clients with a single network file system that can be scaled to gigabytes per second of throughput and petabytes of capacity. Leveraging the iBRIX file system and Rackable Systems' OmniStor external storage arrays, the solution provides a superior file system alternative for large standard Network Attached Storage deployments.
