Dissolving the Limits of Linux @ LINUX

In January, as thousands of Linux OS enthusiasts streamed onto the show floor and into conference sessions at the 2004 LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, they caught up with an old friend who many barely recognized. In a span of only 12 months, Linux has evolved from an emerging technology to an operating system on the forefront of production IT deployments.

As a long time Linux user, I appreciate the hard work and effort SGI has put into Linux. If IBM is Linux's best friend, SGI is Linux's brother. When companies are working on engineering or graphical applications that demand very high performance computing, running Linux on SGI hardware is where you should look. It isn't common to run Linux on 512 processor machines, but a lot of the bottlenecks that were removed to get Linux to work well on that kind of hardware literally feeds back to people running home PC's (there is only one kernel source tree, capable of supporting many architectures). Thanks for the hard work and support. I will never run cat /proc/cpuinfo without first thinking of SGI again.
