The 'Best of Both Worlds': Running Fedora 8 on Legacy Windows XP
One of the beauties of Linux from a business point of view is that it doesn't require the 'latest and greatest' hardware to run properly. As I'll show in this article, as in the case with virtualization, the 'latest and greatest' software is not required either.

The Network Is Computing for Sun
In May 2005, Sun Microsystems announced that they had entered into an agreement to acquire remote access vendor, Tarantella (www.tarantella.com), in a $25 million cash agreement. Tarantella is the producer of secure remote access software that enables network access to hosts running an assortment of operating systems. Sun lays claim to the tagline 'The Network is the Computer.' Taking these two things into consideration, Tarantella would seem to be an excellent way for Sun to further their vision of hosted clients easily distributed over the network.

The next Ethernet
From its first incarnation as a shared packet network that ran at about 3M bps (bits per second), Ethernet grew into a popular 10M bps technology, gave each user their own dedicated bandwidth with switches, helped spawn IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs and eventually found its way into carrier data networks. Along the way it supplanted a long list of rival technologies for LANs. (1,800 words)
Opera shows graceful, humorous response to Microsoft blunder
In the Browser Wars' latest scrap, MSN 'optimized' Opera browsers by sending instructions to shift text 30 pixels to the left. Setting Up a LAN Using Mandrake 8.1
If your household or business is similar to mine, then you have one dial-up connection to be shared among several machines in your home or business. Of course, the main reason for this is cost. The other advantages are: purchasing only one printer for the use of many, purchasing only one scanner for the use of many, purchasing only one program(s) for the use of many. A disadvantage of this scenario is that shared bandwidth will slow your connection considerably depending on how many shares you are running. I run three. One is the 'main' computer used for dial-up and as the 'gateway' for the other two computers I run to connect, using my main computer as the gateway for the connection. All I need for this is a 4-Port Hub and a NIC card in all three machines. If you have more or less than what I have, you'll need the HUB and NIC cards accordingly. Yes, you can do this using serial cables to connect computers, but this is cumbersome and slower than using NIC cards and TCP/IP as the networking protocol.
